Ting-Tong Chang (b. Taiwan, 1982) graduated from Goldsmiths College in 2011. He has exhibited internationally, including Forum Biennial (Taipei Contemporary Art Center, 2010), European Performance Art Festival (Warsaw Centre for Contemporary Art, 2011), III Moscow Biennial for Young Arts (Moscow Museum of Modern Art, 2012) and Bristol Biennial (2014). In 2015, Chang was awarded the Royal British Society for Sculptors Bursary Award, and presented his solo shows in Kunst Kraft Werk Leipzig, Machester Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art.

Blind Chance follows the death of a Chinese immigrant, Eric Wang (1980-2012), who, in 1992, migrated to London and became a property salesman in the borough of Lambeth. In the late afternoon of the 23rd of March of 2012, Wang was riding his bike nearby Bow roundabout, when a tourist bus collided with him. Wang was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

For Blind Chance, Chang invites the audience to board a tourist bus and re-trace Wang’s his last day. In doing so, the bus will head to the middle of nowhere and stop in several random spots, where one passenger, chosen arbitrarily, will be asked to leave the bus, starting then their own adventure.

Inspired by ideas surrounding death, immortal soul and Chinese notions of ghosts and reincarnation, the project is an exploration into the relationship between spiritual displacement and modern capital.
